What are Plevin claims and are they linked to car finance?

‘Plevin claims’ are a specific type of complaint about undisclosed, high levels of commission on payment protection insurance (PPI) sold alongside a regulated credit agreement. The term comes from Plevin v Paragon Personal Finance Ltd (Plevin), in which the Supreme Court ruled in November 2014 that non-disclosure of a substantial commission could make a credit relationship ‘unfair’ under the Consumer Credit Act (CCA) 1974.

If lenders have engaged meaningfully, why do they still say the FCA’s numbers are wrong?

Since the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) published its motor finance redress proposals, both lenders and industry bodies have said that the regulator’s estimates and assumptions are incorrect. Arguments from across these institutions have included claims that the proposed scheme will overcompensate consumers.
